I'm new at collecting Colts but I believe their Model numbers denote specs on barrel length and possibly caliber and finish.  This is a Colt SAA which many people refer to as an 1873, but Colt has their own odd way with model numbers.

Where does it say 1850 on the gun? I've never heard of this. Strange...........

Like July said, it is the Colt model number.  Just like, for example, a Cimarron 5 1/2" 44-40 model P would be model MP421.  Those numbers are on the box, not the gun.

No he listed it originally as an 1850 which is why it was questioned, if you see he edited it an hour ago to P1850.
