Dusty Morningwood
SOLD. You could really reach out and touch something with this whopper! Started life as a 2005 Near Mint Pedersoli Sharps, probably their 1874 "Billy's Sharps." Rifle was sent to Scheutzen Gun Company in Colorado and rebarreled with a high quality SGC 30" barrel Chambered in a massive .50-140 Sharps/Winchester. Stocks are nicely checkered Walnut with silver fore end tip. Case colored receiver with double set triggers. Standard rear buckhorn/ladder sporting and silver blade front sights. Bore is Excellent and I believe it was only test fired at SGC before going into previous owner's safe. Rifle rates about 98% due to some Safe Rash on stock. $1600 + Shipping. Cholla
Cool caliber and gun but that would knock me back into last week and I'm already going to physical therapy! Where's Bisley Joe? He was wanting something like this.

Cholla
Here's what I'm thinking-- 50 grains BP and 90 grains cream of wheat!

Wallaby Damned
Dusty- you got any dies or brass for this beast? My 50-95 has been needing a friend as of late.
Horace Patootie, SASS #35798
You need that, Wallaby ! I have that caliber in a Rolling Block. Got my dies from Buffalo Arms. Horace

My 50-95 has been needing a friend as of late. If it was me, and I do this with other single shots, I would buy a full-length sizing die from CH4D and use a .50-70 seating die. Takes some tinkering to set up, but saves money. It's not like you need to be able two switch cases between multiple .50-140 rifles. Or, just fireform the cases and use the .50-70 dies for everything else. That is what I love about big single shot rifles.

A few bird droppings on the outside layer of newsprint. He asked everyone if they wanted to shoot it. (Trick Question) After shooting it one time, he would offer you another shell. Everyone smiled. thanked him and handed him back his rifle.

I will say that to check the rifles chamber, I made sure the brass would seat in the chamber. Then put a bullet (mine are 685 grains) in the case with no crimp. Pushed it in the chamber and back out to determine best cartridge OAL for that chamber. Then adjusted dies. My rifle was marked "50 Sharps" instead of 50-140. Horace Patootie, SASS #35798
I have yet to use BP although I should. I got a recipe for 5744 from the powder manufacturer. Mud Marine has some pertinent info on BP, I believe. Horace
Wallaby Damned
5744 is a favorite of mine in the 50-95. With an appropriate filler, I’d be comfortable with same in the -140. I wonder how many cases I’d be able to load with your standard can of Trailboss? 25? 30? @Dusty MorningwoodIm in if you’ve got the brass and dies for me. ORNERY OAF
Wallaby, you need to get this gun!!! Cause it sure looks fun, and I like fun stuff
Wallaby Damned
Got it in the works mate. I like fun stuff too! My 50-95 76’ is currently the largest horse in the stable, so now she’ll have a bigger brother. I’ve owned two Shilohs (45-90, 40-82) previously and currently have a Hepburn in 40-65. I may have to build a recoil carriage for the 50-140.
Sgt Duncan
There is a guy on youtube at Cinnabar Ranch that makes videos shooting old lever guns. He recently put out a video shooting a Sharps 50-140 and then a follow up video about a week later showing off the bruising to his right shoulder LOL. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JP3ZAGrbNBE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRDu8Dal3tY
Red River Rudy, SASS #8490 LIFE
I have a Farmingdale Shiloh Sharps in this caliber. I shoot the 300 grain and 450 gr cast lead with gas checks that my 1886 50-100 Winchester shoots as well as the 630 gr. 5744 loads are the most fun but watching someone shoot the 630 with 140 grains of 1f black powder is a hoot! Had a guy shoot the 100 yard target at Bayou Blast a couple of years ago, knocked the whole target stand down. Shooting the lighter bullets is actually fun! Wallaby Damned
Hey @Red River Rudy, SASS #8490 LIFE, what is your twist rate to be shooting the lighter bullets? I use Hawk jacketed 300gr FP and HP in my 50-95 and they shoot great.

Wallaby Damned
I’m in Missoula, MT and spend my summers in Cody, WY. Haven’t had the opportunity yet to shoot the Q but it’s on my list of “someday”’s. Unfortunately, with two young boys (7, 11) at home and a list of domestic chores that need attending to when I am home on weekends, getting away for something like that in the middle of my summer season is pretty low priority right now. I mostly enjoy popping over to the range with said boys every now and then just to make sure my rifles still work.
