Sympathy! Had similar with a hand made quilt sent to the kids, ping ponged all over the East Coast in transit from Montana to Colorado.  Even though our Post Mistress is a neighbor we could not find out why it happened.  Addresses were clearly printed with a permanent Sharpie.  At the end, automation got the blame.  Not sure there isn't some sort of internal game among select USPS workers, maybe a pool.

I had one go from Wild West Mercantile in Mesa, AZ to Vancouver, BC, to Edmonton, Alberta, to Montreal, Quebec, to Gander, Newfoundland, to Heathrow, United Kingdom, back to Gander, Montreal and finally to Ottawa, Ontario.

Nice trip.
