Just finished it, the war on terror. Good read but depressing. The terrorists are awful brutal. Some of the tortures were inhuman!

Couldn't all torture be considered inhumane?

It's been done before, by man to man as long as man has existed.

Sadly.

You should read some of the journals and letters from settlers and their descriptions of native creativity.

I have and yes there were some really brutal tortures then as well. Without going into detail there's quite a few in this book that I never heard of.

Native Americans, Nazi "doctors", Japanese, Chinese, Middle Ages Europeans, Spaniards, etc, etc...

That horrible list goes on and on...

“The belief in a supernatural source of evil is not necessary; men alone are quite capable of every wickedness.”

Joseph Conrad

Just ordered a Kindle copy of the book.  Looking forward to reading it.
