Swapping a straight stock for a pistol grip

If a person had two rifles; say a '66 with straight stock and a '73 with pistol grip stock - could the stocks/levers be switched between the guns without throwing the timing/operation off?  Or would fitting maybe/probably be required?

I would have to say, after changing stock, lower tang and lever your timing will probaly be different      GW

since I shoot a Marlin I have a question here:

can the stocks and levers be swapped?

just curious

While I am sure they exist, I have never seen a pistol grip Marlin 94.

On another forum I used to be active on it was very common to see guys in the classified section looking to swap tang, lever and stock for their particular Marlin 336 or 1895 to convert it from straight to pistol grip or vice versa.  Of course this was all back before Remington or Ruger so I have no idea if there are any dimensional differences between the various models produced as ownership changed.
