Chief Rick Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 If a person had two rifles; say a '66 with straight stock and a '73 with pistol grip stock - could the stocks/levers be switched between the guns without throwing the timing/operation off? Or would fitting maybe/probably be required?
Abilene, SASS # 27489 Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 No. The lower tang is curved on the pistol grip '73.
G W Wade Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 I would have to say, after changing stock, lower tang and lever your timing will probaly be different GW
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 PLUS ONE for Abilene The lower Tang on the 1866 is a solid part of the Receiver Casting and is not removable.
July Smith Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 At least on my Ubertis the tangs have the serial number so you might run into more issues than just timing even if you wanted to swap from one 73 to another.
Cheyenne Ranger, 48747L Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 since I shoot a Marlin I have a question here: can the stocks and levers be swapped? just curious

On another forum I used to be active on it was very common to see guys in the classified section looking to swap tang, lever and stock for their particular Marlin 336 or 1895 to convert it from straight to pistol grip or vice versa. Of course this was all back before Remington or Ruger so I have no idea if there are any dimensional differences between the various models produced as ownership changed.
