It enhanced the phrase, “Anybody want a peanut?” 100 fold!

Why, I just feel sad for anyone who came away from The Princess Bride feeling it ruined anything. Not to take anything away from Second Hand Lions, another great movie. but there were so many life lessons in that movie.

Never get involved in a land war in Asia

Never trust a man wearing a mask

MLTs are the greatest thing in the world, especially when the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato ripe

Be wary of someone swordfighting left handed

Cowards should live a long life alone with their cowardice

and most important of all, If you rush a Miracle Man, you get rotten miracles.

Long before I ever heard of The Princess Bride I learned some life lessons.

Never stand when you can sit, never sit when you can lay down.

Eat when there's food, sleep when there's time.

Always cut the cards. Always bring your own dice.

Never eat at a place called Mom's, never gamble with a man called Pops.

And most importantly, do not trust redheaded women or left-handed swordsman.

Perhaps "ruined" was a poor choice of word for the subject line.  But every time I read the line, "Love, true love" I hear it in That Voice.  So does my wife.  And often she will quote the whole speech.

From my motorcycling mentor

Never let the guy with the windshield lead

Never pass up the chance to empty your bladder

Never pass up the opportunity to fill the tank.

and get to the part about love you heard it in the voice of the bishop in the marriage scene in The Princess Bride.

This one is for Joe, Second Hand Lions was also an awesome movie.

Yep.  But for those three little words my mind hears the bishop's voice.  Every time.

Going off slightly on a tangent - I was looking for various Princess Bride clips last night, and found this. It is exceedingly good. A lady who does stage combat for a living explains why the duel at the top of the cliffs was so wonderful.

When I officiated my daughter's wedding, I completely plagiarized that for the opening. We used to watch that all the time when my girls were growing up. :D

It is not a chick flick at all. Trust me. It has violence and comedy. Pirates (well, one) and fencing. Torture and an evil prince. Good fun.

As Bob said, not a chick flick.  Nor a kids movie.  Nor an action adventure.  But a bit of all of those rolled into one amazing package.

Darn near a morality play.  Duty, commitment, honor, loyalty, the inherent weakness of evil.

And, of course: "wuve, twoo wuve."

I don’t recall seeing one trailer of it. All I knew was that Peter Falk was in it. That was enough.

The most "suspension of disbelief" in the movie.

Grandpa said that this was the book his father would read to him when he was sick. The book was written in 1973. :P
