At the bottom of that cover it shows an article. Pre-Civil War Carbines. Taylor's Spencer and Cimarron's Texas Ranger.

I know of the Spencer, but I had not heard of the Texas Ranger. Did a search.

Currently Cimarron sells two guns they refer to as Texas Ranger. An 1873 Colt and an 1876 Winchester. Neither of these could be considered pre-Civil War.

So what was Cimarron calling a Texas Ranger 18 years ago?

Thanks Joker.

So this "pre civil War carbine" is actually post civil War by a good many years. Nodding.gif.70f4035dce09af9e4577cf4ea310c052.gif

You take a 1859 percussion - and yes, that would be pre-war - and then in 1869 you convert it to metallic cartridge, it is no longer pre-war.

I have 5 or 6 years worth of SHOOT that I saved. If I remember correctly when they folded, several other magazines offered to honor their remain subscription. I think that how I started receiving TRUE WEST. Shoot was a really good publication, but narrowly aimed at CAS.
