Tom King Explains What’s Next in Our Now Post-Bruen Fight for Freedom

After the U.S. Supreme Court decided, in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, that, yes indeed, law-abiding citizens can carry their Second Amendment freedoms outside their homes, the New York State Assembly and Senate passed—and Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) signed into law—a sweeping new list of gun-control laws that includes a list “gun-free zones” so long that, when it goes into effect September 1, carrying for self-defense will be, practically speaking, impossible.

As other states that, before Bruen, also had “may-issue” regimes in place rewrite their laws, we reached out to Tom King, president of the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association (NYSRPA) and an NRA board member, for his insights on what’s next in this struggle for freedom.

The NYSRPA is an NRA-affiliated group and King says, “There is no way we could have kept up this case without the NRA. The NRA’s expert legal team and its funds, thanks to its large and freedom-loving membership, kept this case alive. We didn’t know the U.S. Supreme Court would eventually hear this case; we just knew we had a good case, as citizens’ constitutional rights were being taken away.”
