Dantankerous
The 1862 police model is available in several barrel lengths but seems to be unavailable pretty much everywhere on the planet in the short 4 1/2 inch barrel length offering. Do they not make many of that barrel length or is that size the most sought after thus nothing available? Thanks for any insight.
Tully Mars
I know where there's one new in the box. I believe there's a 4 1/2 and a 5 1/2" as well. Let me know if you are interested and I'll put you in contact with my buddy.
Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
Hi: I assume you are aware that the true 1862 Police is built on the 1849 pocket pistol (.31 cal) frame. It's pretty small, and many larger hands (like mine) don't fit it very well. --Dawg
Slapshot
Found this on the internet don't know if its true or not. Pietta 1862 pocket has the same frame and grip as the 1851 (SAA grip), but Uberti's 1862 frame and grip is the same as the 1849 pocket.
Tully Mars
Dantankerous, I made the assumption it was the Uberti that you're searching for and not the Pietta. We have four 62's and a few 49's, it's true they are small, but I have no problems shooting them. The 62's are my wife's Plainsman pistols. Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
Slapshot: Yes, it's true. The Pietta 1862 is built of the 1851 frame. Same grip. It's not a true 1862, as they have a much smaller frame Theirs is an 1862 in name only --Dawg

Dantankerous
Must be the Pietta 1862 built on the '51 frame in .36 caliber I am after. Thanks all for the clarification.
Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
Dan: The Uberti 1862 built on an 1849 frame has a rebated cylinder to allow it to load 375 balls. The Pietta built on the 1851 frame has a cylinder with no rebate. They do both have the sexy 1860-style barrel though
H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619
Personally, I want an Uberti 62, with the shorter barrel, and a cartridge conversion so it can be like the gun Jimmy Stewart carried in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. But, it seems no one makes a conversion cylinder for it.

Crazy Gun Barney, SASS #2428
I wonder if the anvil conversion plans for a 1851 could be modified to convert a 49? Would have to make sure the cylinder is long enough for both a 32s&w and the conversion plate. just thinkin….
