Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 Driving home about an hour ago the moon was directly in front of my car. Looked as big as a manhole cover. Looked out about five minutes ago and it's no bigger the a dime. A few dark storm clouds but mostly very clear. Go figure.
Highwall Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 I saw it too! As big as it gets around here. It's a moon night!
Pat Riot Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 Heat convection makes it look larger closer to the horizon. Years ago I got to see one of those African movie sunsets where the sun filled up a big portion of the horizon off the coast of Oman. Super impressive.
Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967 Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 It's actually the lens effect of the Earth's atmosphere curvature.... But whilst y'all were gazing, did anyone happen to notice my ex- whizzing about it in low orbit~? Perhaps accompanied by one or more flying monkeys?
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 It was the Buck moon, biggest super moon of the year.
