And was ambushed by police without probable cause (beyond driving a stolen car with pot smoke/smell filling the interior and mismatched license plates) at 2:30AM while on his way home after leading church choir practice, Oh and the gun he fired at police wasn't his...... he was going to drop it off at the police station in the next few days, but before he could the darn thing took control of his mind and went off, just like Alec Baldwin? We were all young and idealistic believing we'd have an impact and change the community in which we worked. The honeymoon phase ended at about 3 years in and we became cynical and divorced but did discover that every now and then the world became a better place if just for a while because of our efforts. We didn't profile based on color, we profiled behavior. Rarely did we ever get a genuine thank you, our bosses were quick to point out our shortcomings and mistakes but neglected to recognize our successes. But when it was all over and we closed a case by locking up someone bad we all smiled because we knew that he'd get his...Many a time I told the bad guy, it is the cost and risk of your career choice so do not complain.
