A small vise & vice grips for removing & installing spring retention clip will be very helpful.

Also go to the Ruger site and watch their video. Easy peasy. A fork can be used to aid pushing down the hammer spring.

As others have said a fork, an appropriate sized punch, in combination with a vise for me, though if you have strong hands not required, and you are good to go.

Good advice. 

I've changed them many times while testing at the range without a vise.  You just need a second vise grip to hold up the strut.  I like the vise grip much better than a fork.  Less time looking for the tab after your grip  slips with the fork.
