Just a few of the jobs that no longer exist

Recommended Posts

Keypunch operators. I graduated high school in '68. Half the girls went to learn to be keypunch operators.  Half the boys were drafted.  When I worked in an office in 72, there was a room about 30' square filled with keypunch girls. In a few years, everything went online.

Leech collector

In the mid-1800s when medical professionals believed that bloodletting could cure an illness or disease, leech collectors were responsible for retrieving the blood-sucking insects from their natural habitat for doctors to use.

I like leeches.

You must have gone to OU.....leeches aren't insects.

Candy stripers

Telegram delivery man

Until the early 2000s , the Tobacco Company restaurant, on Carey St in Richmond, VA, still had roving cigarette girls. They were almost cute enough  to make me take up smoking (almost).

I was a telephone repairman back when there was no charge for a repair. I'm old !!!

Also fixed televisions when it was cheaper to fix than replace.

I can't remember the last time I saw a caboose on a train. Do caboose men still exist?

No it's a small sensor suite now

The caboose was replaced by the Flashing Rear End Device or FRED. Sad, because even as a child I loved cabooses!
