Abilene Slim SASS 81783
The Bruce Dern thread got me thinking - which is often dangerous. JW’s death by Bruce Dern is probably his most remembered. But he’s been killed in other films and I’m wondering if y’all can add to my list. I’m gonna start the timeline at 1939’s Stagecoach since that’s when he transitioned out of B movies. It also needs to be an on screen death as opposed to unseen as in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. Here’s what I recall: Reap the Wild Wind (1942) - drowns when battling a giant squid Wake of the Red Witch (1948) - drowns in underwater salvage attempt. A giant squid or octopus may have been involved as well. Sands of Iwo Jima (1950) - killed by sniper The Cowboys (1972) - Done in by Bruce Dern The Shootist (1976) - shot in the back by a no-name bartender. That’s all I remember. Are there others? sassnetguy50
If it has to be on screen we can rule out the first two. We see a ship slide, maybe he found a way out later? The second shows an ink cloud, maybe he wiggled free?

Just before he jumped over the fence, she was showing him the family plot, and told him that he was to be buried next to her. Said something about it made you feel better to know where you were going to be spending eternity.

We know he died because of the music and the fact we didn’t see him again.
