Taos Posted March 29, 2022 Share Posted March 29, 2022 Anyone know where I can get a tapered magazine spring for a 73 carbine? Grandson shoots a 16" carbine. It will hold 10 but is tough to load 10. Yes the spring in it has been cut down. A gunsmith at Hell on the Boarder, SW Regional, suggested I find a tapered magazine spring, but I can't seem to find one anywhere. Abilene, SASS # 27489 Posted March 29, 2022 Share Posted March 29, 2022 Those radically tapered springs were a proprietary item made for the Cimarron 16" trappers. I don't know if that is still the case. When I worked there, they never had any in stock, but I did hear from one pard who got the spring from them, so it wouldn't hurt to call and ask them if you haven't already. There is also a hollowed out magazine plug if you can find one of them. The end of the tapered spring fits into it and gives another fraction of an inch. I was able to fit ten .45's at 1.58" in my 16" Cimarron trapper, but switched to Schofields since much easier to load the tube. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
