1966 and again in 1968-1960.

 

Never heard "welcome home" except from family and a few friends in those days.

 

Even though I hear it very often since moving to Arizona (and virtually never in California), and appreciate it greatly, it sounds a bit hollow these days.

I was short- 13 days left in country when our little brown brothers decided to throw a TET party.

Garryowen! Here I sit in cold Colorado. Thousands of miles from that hot, humid place. But very close in my memory. Even after Half a century. I'll have a cigar and lift a glass to those amazing men I served with, the ones who survived and the ones who fell. They were America's best.
