Trigger Mike
My son and I had an opportunity to try out the Springfield socom 16 m1a. Zero jams , at 100 we both did average. He is 16 and has better eye sight so he shot at a metal deer target at 150 and missed 1 out of 5. He then tried it at a square metal target at 300. Again 4 hits out of 5. 2 hits were side by side. We knew he hit 4 as we heard a distinct ping and saw dust etc fly off.

Pat Riot
How’d you like the rifle?
Trigger Mike
we both loved it. he said i need to buy two of them. It was light, easy to maneuver , but to me not much recoil. he is more bony than i am and said it kicked a little . It is not super fast firing rounds like he likes, compared to an AR 15 , but to me fast enough. When he fires it reminds me of the story of the bull and his son who spy a herd of cows. He wants to run and get one, I want to take my time and get them all. He does hit though. His hits at 300 were standing , resting on a wooden post. Dawg Hair, SASS #29557
I've got a Springfield Armory M1A "Standard" in .308 and love it but I've never tried a Socom. My rifle kicks like my M1 Garand but I imagine the Socom having a shorter barrel has to kick a lot more. Yeah, man, follow your son's advice, buy two! Dutch Nichols, SASS #6461
I find both the 18" bush rifle and esp the 16" SOCOM "kick" less as they have really efficient comps on them versus the std flash hider on std M1A's.
Trigger Mike
seemed that way to me.
