Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933
Have an old Texan press that has sat in the garage for years. Decided to set it up to load my smokeless cowboy loads as I have switched my Mec to loading 2 1/2" BP shells. Took it completely apart and replaced some rusted out springs and fixed a couple of other items. Texans are built like tanks but have not been made for years so parts are hard to come by. But, it was finally all back together. Cycling the machine everything worked but there was a faint squeak. I had throughly lubed it and thought it just needed a little working in. Squeak, squeak, squeak, it was getting annoying! I took it apart at least three more times checking for burrs, etc. I had removed the main shaft and used heavy oil on it. Figured maybe it needed grease. Took it down to the bare frame again. Put it back together and squeak, squeak, squeak!!! By this point I was so use to taking it apart i could do it in just a few minutes. Workbench started getting sloppy as I was getting frustrated. Started removing a piece at a time. Cycle, squeak, cycle, squeak. About ready to toss it in the dumpster when my arm bumped the wooded handle - squeak. The ancient wood was throughly dryed out and the shaft it rotated on was pretty worn. Sawed it off, made a new shaft, greased the shaft and the interior of the wood handle and SILENCE! Fixing problems is easy. Finding them is often the bigger chore.

Alpo
I thought it was going to turn out to be the stool he was sitting on. When he leaned forward to move the handle, the stool would squeak.

Alpo
My brother and a friend of his put some raw shrimp in the hubcap of the getaway car for the bride and groom. Fortunately for them, the groom never found out who done it.
Dusty Devil Dale
So familiar. I had the same kind of search with a MEC 9000. It was the wooden handle also. A quick squirt of light oil in the wooden hole beside the shaft moisturized the wood and stopped it.
Trailrider #896
I thought maybe you had a mouse problem! Solution for that is a ball-bearing mousetrap...aka a tomcat!

Pat Riot
Last weekend I was doing some maintenance to my motorcycle. I had the front wheel off the ground. I use a stand for that. Anyway, I kept hearing this funny noise, like a gargling chatter when I slowly spin the wheel. Every time I moved the wheel I heard it. I listened closely. It wasn’t the brake pads. Everything looked true. I thought “I have never heard bearings make a noise like this.” I was getting my mechanic’s stethoscope out when I heard the noise again and the wheel wasn’t spinning. It turns out it was a darned crow making funny noises as he sat on the power lines above the front of my garage.

Eyesa Horg
We were a few hundred miles from home after a 3000 mile bike trip on our Harley. Started hearing a chi chi chi noise that sounded like it was coming from the frontend. Pulled over to inspect and couldn't find a thing, even rolling it around and the wife listening. Made it home and went out for dinner with friends later on that the week and let a buddy drive it, he agreed it was in the front. On the way home after dinner, he came up along side us and determined it was in the back. Got home, removed the saddle bag and viola there was the drive belt missing a lot of it's cogs! Amazing we made it home, considering we were pulling a 300 pound camper and travelling between 70 & 80!
