SOLD: CPA Rifles [Paul Shuttleworth] Schuetzen Rifle based on the Stevens Model 44 1/2 action chambered in .32-40

Recommended Posts

I will list this on GunBroker 2-13-2022 where the cost will be greater due to shipping and potential taxes.

If interested, PM me and I can close the GunBroker listing if there are no bids at that time and sell it for the cost listed in this add.

Thank you!

SOLD:  Paul Shuttleworth CPA Schuetzen Rifle

based on the Stevens Model 44 ½ action

This is a “modern” Schuetzen rifle made by CPA Rifles [Paul Shuttleworth] based upon the Stevens Model 44 ½ action.  It is chambered in the venerable .32-40 caliber and it has a heavy 28 inch barrel with traditional scope blocks installed for the vintage style of target scopes made by Lyman, Unertl, Fecker, Litchert and others.  The tang is drilled and taped for attaching a tang sight.  The stock is in the traditional Schuetzen configuration with the Swiss Schuetzen metal butt piece and palm rest attachment hardware on the forearm.  I bought this new in 1992 and no longer participate in the Schuetzen game so it is time to pass it along to someone who will use it.  The serial number is 101.  In addition to the rifle, this sale includes:

1)      Two “plugged” cases for breach seating bullets.  The rifle also shoots fine with normally loaded rounds.

2)      Anshutz adjustable rear sight [Anshutz part # 6805] which has the normal single hole eye piece [sometimes called the eyedisc] aperture and the adjustable iris aperture eye piece [Anshutz part #9510].  The adjustable iris aperture eye piece opening adjusts from .8 to 2.2mm.

3)      Attachment bar that clamps onto the rear scope base placed just ahead of the action.  This is for use with the Anshutz adjustable rear sight and puts the rear sight at a comfortable scope height.

4)      Front Globe spirit level sight with numerous extra inserts.

5)      Jerry Barnett mold for the .32-40 bullet that was highly recommended by Paul Shuttleworth when I purchased the rifle.  This mold cast a bullet of about 198 grains when using 20 to 1 alloy.  Jerry Barnett had an excellent reputation as a mold maker for the single shot rifles.  Sadly, he passed away a decade or two ago.

6)      20 empty used .32-40 cases that can be used with breach seated bullets or loaded “normally” with the bullet in the case.

7)      Palm rest.

8)      Original manual/instructions that came with the rifle.

This rifle is in Very Good to Excellent condition with a very few small handling marks gained over the years.  The rifling is excellent and the action works as intended.  This is a very nice set for anyone who wants to engage in Schuetzen or other precision rifle events.  Please view the numerous photos to evaluate for yourself this rifle’s condition and to see all the included extras.

Note:  CPA Rifles still sells extra barrels in many different calibers including 38-55, 40-65, 45-70, etc. if you want to use this rifle for Silhouette shoots, long-range shoots, or hunting.  You can also get stocks with a shotgun butt for Silhouette or hunting use from CPA Rifles that will fit this action.  Changing barrels is a simple process.  The hardest part is switching out the extractor if needed and that is also relatively simple and fast.

To replace this set today would cost over $3900.

Price: $2900 shipped to your FFL in the lower 47 States

[Sorry, no sales to California because I do not have access to an FFL who will ship there and no sales to Alaska or Hawaii due to the extra shipping expense].

Please feel free to ask any questions.

Thank you for looking.

My compliments as well for a beautiful rifle and outstanding presentation.  I wish I were a good enough rifleman to allow it to demonstrate its capabilities.
