Boondocking/disbursed camping - Utah/Colorado

Recommended Posts

We are planning on making HoW again this year.

I am interested in taking my time and driving through Denver (not the city itself, but the general area) to Moab (UT) then down to Mesa Verde (CO) on our way home.

Is it difficult to find places to boondock/disbursed camping?

BLM is pretty open to what you want.

NF land should be as well.

I have never encountered a problem boondocking or dry camping anywhere in Colorado but I've not done any of it North of I 70 either. Don't think it should be any different than anywhere else in the state however.

Just south of Denver is Polk NF, lots of camping like you’re looking for. CO has lots of public land with good camping. We either tent camped or pulled a 800# pop up trailer behind our Jeep. Never had a problem finding a place to stay. That is a great part of the world to travel around like you’re talking about. You’ll enjoy Moab

Campendium is not a bad place to look.

And I have rv dump sites .net on my phone. The Truma app has a nice set of tools including a leveler that uses your phones gyros to tell you how much to lift what. And a compass for max solar exposure.. All are freeware
