Hanging out with my grandkids makes me happy each and every time.

Took my 3 year old grandson out for ice cream on Sunday evening.   Just watching him gleefully devour it was enough to keep me goin' for awhile.

When the band REALLY hits the note!  When you’re “in the pocket” there’s nothing like it!

My grandsons make me happy!!

A fast car makes me happy!!

Good food, especially shared with good friends, makes me happy!!

Blued steel with fire and smoke and that satisfying report, followed by a loud clang makes me happy!

A good, twisty, scenic road, viewed over a pair of handlebars really makes me happy!!

It’s easy to piss me off, but even easier to make me happy!!

When I make someone else happy, for all the right reasons, it makes me happy.

My wife.

My motorcycle on a nice day, actually any day.

My convertible on a nice day.

Smokin’ guys in euro-cars, raced out Japanese cars, lifted pickups, and other assorted vehicles in my little Mazda Miata. These things are faster than they look and handle great.

A pretty lady’s smile.

Reloading ammo.

Cleaning my guns.

Shooting my guns.
Repeat

Counting down the days to retirement.

Time at the cabin, just my bride and I.

Hunting, fishing or cutting wood with my family.

Waking up in the morning. You know, that time before you move when nothing hurts yet.

A hug from my young grandson.

Sunrise on the ice or in a deer blind.

Sleeping late without an alarm clock.

Listening to my older granddaughter play violin in the symphony.

Watching my younger granddaughter swim the 500 yard freestyle in competition.

Helping my grandson build a tower with Legos.

Reloading some .38 Specials.

Exercising my Smith & Wessons at a nearby indoor range.

Eating my wife’s cooking.

Going to bed early.

You just read my ideal schedule for every day.  :)

Watching puppies be puppies.

Sitting under a tin roof in light rain with a buzz on.

Catching all of the green lights.

Making a long shot bet on a hunch and winning.

Having a clean match where I shot well, quick with no fumbles.

Making my gal happy, which makes us both happy.

Having my dad say that he's proud of me.

I'm the only one that can make me happy. I can be sad only if I allow it. Bad day? Wreak your car, get cheated on a deal, loose a loved one? Well that's just life, I refuse to let those things make me sad.

I wish I had your strength.

Waking up from a really weird dream.

No! I love wierd dreams. I'm mad when I wake from one without knowing hiw it ends. ;)

I'm serious. Guess I've read too much Bradbury and King and watched too much Twilight Zone. :D

#1 My wife.

The rest:
Playing live music, solo or with a band
Designing, building and testing loudspeakers, especially horn loaded ones.

Taking portrait and wedding photos
Photoshopping the old gals in those photos to remove 20 years
Making a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Nailing the ritual in my Masonic lodge and washing dishes for our events.

Researching and learning, darn near anything.

That's truly a good question, and perhaps I am overthinking it. I've struggled with being happy as a state of mind for over a decade now. Some days it feels like I will lose the struggle. I can find things that bring me temporary joy or elation, but happiness and contentment over the longer term often seems to elude me.

However, not to be a complete downer, there are things that bring me joy, that can make me smile even when I sit back and think of them. Among them:

My wife smiling. Watching her enjoy her passion, riding and showing horses.
Spending time learning something new with my oldest daughter.

My youngest daughter's fun, heartfelt laugh

Being "in the zone." whether in karate, trap shooting, or something else I've reached proficiency at. Unfortunately, I'm not there yet with Cowboy Action.
Drinking coffee around a campfire in the morning with those few I consider brothers, whether by blood or bond.

Losing myself in building a scale model when it is going well.

Driving a vehicle that handles well and is quick enough to be enjoyable out on the road.

Dogs of all types, but there is something special about watching a Jack Russell running hell bent for leather, ears back, just for the joy of it all.
