Old Western Movie Recommendations

Buckshot Bear

Recommended Posts

After some Old Western Movie recommendations.

Watched Winchester 1873 with Jimmy Stewart and we really liked it.

Being of the "coloured TV" age, don't know a lot of B&W Western movies to watch, any suggestions appreciated.

I agree. Winchester '73 is great but would have been a lot better in color.

Here's a few more classics

1 ) The Last Wagon

2) The Man from Laramie

3) Bandelero

4) Warlock

5) Rare Breed

6) Bend in the river

7)Broken Arrow

8) Ulzanas raid

9) Hombre

And of course anything with the Duke

Not all B&W, but still interesting.

All JW:

The Shootist

The Searchers

Rio Bravo

Red River

Then:

The Gunfighter

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Shane

The Outlaw Josie Wales

Dodge City:  Errol Flynn. Best barroom fight on film.

They Died With Their Boots On.

High Noon

The Spoilers. (  1942 John Wayne, Randolph Scott, Marlene Dietrich.  Can be hard to find because it’s politically incorrect; John Wayne has some scenes in blackface.  Great bar fight at the end.)

I see Blazing Saddles fight choreographer paid a lot of attention to this movie.

I knew it was going to be bad when I recognized the intro to Marching Through Georgia.

If you want just B&W Westerns try:

Red River

Along Came Jones

Stagecoach

Fort Apache

Destry Rides Again

The Westerner

High Noon

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

The Gunfighter

Angel and the Badman

Winchester '73

.....as you can see, any early film with Wayne, Cooper or Stewart

I still have it on VHS, Scott and McCrea last movie. Two old Cowboys retiring. I liked them both.

I really put this movie high on my list in so many ways. This is really what I consider to be the signpost of the end of one era and the beginning of a new era of westerns. It is the swan song of Scott and McCrea and I couldn't think of a better way for them to ride off into the sunset.

There is so much meaning behind the one line, "I just want to enter my house justified".
