Springfield emissary 1911

Handled one at a local gun shop the other day. Felt and looked nice. Slide to frame fit was good and worked nice and smooth. The only down fall was that it had a bull barrel without a bushing so it can not be used in wild bunch.

Just curious:  why 10mm over 45 ACP?
I'm trying to learn.

We need a 10mm discussion!!!

Love mine. (I have several)

upside.... (compared to the 45 ACP that I also have several of and love as well)

one extra round in the same frame size.

for a given bullet weight an extra 2-3 hundred fps.

large choice of bullet weights, I have used down to 135 gr. jacketed

downside ....

uses more powder of a given type

considerably more recoil (muzzle flip) at upper end loads

frames tend to weigh more

steady diet of top end loads can do damage (so I have been told, I have run thousands of 180 jacketed at about 1000 fps without failures)

either the 10 or 45 are excellent firearms, for a while 10 seemed to be going away but now there are several mfg that are back in the game. Both are capable of great accuracy, just depends how much load development you want to put in.

Lawman Mark and Gateway Kid......... THANKS.

When I want to shoot a .45, I use my .460 Rowlands.   I have 2 of them and they also pack a whallop.

The 10mm I have are also controllable, fun to shoot..... and a good range of bullets for reloading from many bullet makers.

One of them stays beside my bed at night.

And one other thing I have noticed is that not one T-Rex or Sabre Tooth Tiger has

ventured around since I starting guarding my edge of the woods with the 10mm.

The only 10mm that are CA compliant appears to be the Kimber Stainess Target and the Eclipse Custom.
I'm just kicking tires for educational purposes.

My thoughts about a pistol vs a revolver, being the pistol might cycle faster in a pinch.
I don't have a dog in this event, so just thinking out loud.

Why not try the smith and wesson 10 mm revolver?

There is one of those in a shop where I live for $989.     4" barrel and beautiful.

I've wanted one of those for years, and the only one I've found had been horribly butchered by a dremel tool artist.

Because I have 44 magnum revolvers.

Same here.

I don't find the 44 magnum recoil at all harsh or abusive. Pretty darn good round. 44 Special can even be stout. Great work there, Elmer Keith. :D

My only real thought for a pistol would be potentially faster cycling in a defense scenario.
Power was not part of my thoughts, as I can load 44 mag up to wrist breaking levels if need be.
