Alpo
You ever wonder why that one line doesn't rhyme? Or is that just me? Dashing through the snow In a one horse open sleigh O'er the fields we go Laughing all the way That verse rhymes Bells on bobtail ring Making spirits bright What fun it is to ride and sing A sleighing song tonight That one rhymes too A day or two ago I thought I'd take a ride And soon Miss Fanny Bright Was seated by my side The horse was lean and lank Misfortune was his lot We got into a drifted bank And we, we got upsot That last verse rhymes But the third one - ago and Bright? I was thinking about this a few months ago, and researched the song. Thought that maybe I was misremembering the lyrics. But according to everything I could find, those were the original lyrics. He could have written something like But then last Friday night And soon Miss Fanny Bright Or maybe A day or two ago And soon my best girl Jo Just don't make no sense

Alpo
Quite possibly. But when someone writes a poem, and all the verses rhyme except one, and I (an extremely poet) can easily rhyme the odd verse, it makes me wonder. There's another one. I WANT A HIPPOPOTAMUS FOR CHRISTMAS. I have sung that song for many years. One verse goes NO CROCODILES . NO RHINOCEROSES. I ONLY LIKE HIPPOPOTAMUSES. I have always sang I ONLY SMILE FOR HIPPOPOTAMUSES. Just fits the rhyme scheme better. And on the subject of hippopotamuses, I always thought this was either a grown woman, or possibly a boy kid about 14 or 15. 10-year-old girl. Some zoo in the Midwest (Kansas City?) had a contest. Get the kids to send in their pennies and nickels and buy Gayla a hippopotamus. They got two grand (in 1953 money) and bought a baby hippo named Matilda and gave it to her. She donated it back to the zoo, where it lived for 45 years and had nine baby hippos. Then they was moving it to some Disney thing and she had a heart attack and died. Poor Matilda. twelve mile REB
Guess y'all hadn't heard Jingle bells is a racist song and now banned in certain eastern schools. Oh howdy, some folks got to stay up night just to figure out these things.
