Solomon Kane 18264
Moderators, if wrong forum, please move. Gents and ladies: Looking for advice from people who know more than I. (Broad coverage, that) I have a lettered 1892 Winchester made in 1895 in 44-40. I was wondering if anyone could give advice on approximate value. I am thinking about putting it up for trade in the Classifieds for a Colt SAA, but I was wanting to have a clearer idea of worth. Gunbroker prices are all over the map, as are several other sites. Pic is below. Any help is appreciated.

Dutch Nichols, SASS #6461
NO ONE can value a gun of that age without seeing it. How is the bore, how much pitting, has the wood or any parts been refinished, any parts replaced, etc.
Solomon Kane 18264
Bore is what you’d expect, rough but still good rifling. No refinishing I can see on the wood, although I suspect the checking was done by a previous owner.

Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967
I would call that bore "dark." That said, the rifle is over 125 years old - and assuming it's mechanically sound, looks like it would still be a ton o' fun to shoot.

Action is so smooth.
J-BAR #18287
You don’t need a consensus on value, you just need one person who wants it. Use the “Dutch auction” approach. List it for a price that you think is too high (maybe you will sell it and then grin all the way to the bank), then drop the price gradually, week by week until it either sells or you approach a price that you think is too low. Repeat as necessary. Eventually you will get a buyer.

McCandless
I can only tell you what "Blue Book" gun value is... Not what someone is willing to pay. If the rifle has a serial number under 168,000 10% - $675, 20% - $875, 30% - $1,035 40% - $1300, 50% - $1,550, 60% - $1,725, 70% - $2,250 *Here's the kicker, Double these prices for .44-40 WCF cal. This is for an all-original gun in proper functioning order.
Seamus McGillicuddy
I believe that the fact that it’s legally an antique increases the value a but since it can be bought and sold without going thru a dealer. Seamus
Cholla
Actually, Gunbroker can tell you what they are SELLING for. Go to the advanced search option next to the search box and click on completed auctions.
