Cholla
I have someone asking me if I know who offers a vise that holds dovetail sight so that they can be shaped. This is not a vise to move them. Any ideas?
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
My bench vise with brass jaws holds dovetail sights just fine. I chuck the sight in so the grip is made on the sides of the dovetail shape, not on the very delicate front and back (which have the angled slopes). If a feller wanted a REAL secure grip on a dovetail sight, I guess he could file out a dovetail notch in a thick slab of lead, chop it into two pieces, and install those as jaws. If I were setting up tooling to work in a milling machine, milling a set of jaws with the mill would be my first step. Filing on sights with so much force as to need something more secure, would seem to be like sledge hammering on brads. good luck, GJ
Crooked River Pete, SASS 43485
I would think this would be about perfect for shaping small parts, https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/panavise/301/1500?utm_adgroup=Vises&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Shopping_Product_Tools_NEW&utm_term=&utm_content=Vises&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIv5yax-u09AIV3WpvBB1RVw-EEAQYBCABEgIw2_D_BwE
