FB jail again

My wife posted a meme on FB with a picture of a Payday candy bar and caption stated that they are going to change the name because it was offensive to the unemployed. I think I gave her the meme from SASS Saloons.  FB took it down because they labeled it false content.

Since we as a society have become dependent on computers and cell phones the technology is becoming scary.  Just a couple of months ago Apple announced it had software to track and analyze every photo on your phone.  Ostensibly it was to detect child porn.  So much uproar was raised Apple claims they did not implement the software.  Who knows.  If you have an Alexa it listens to everything you say and has been used as evidence in criminal cases.  So you better watch yourself.;)

The only way to get news and information from some clubs or SASS related groups is on FB, strangely.

Contact these clubs & recommend that they diversify and post on other social media platforms.  I deleted my Twitter (Sewer) & Fake book in January when they banned DJT.

I never got put in FB jail, since I deleted my account about 4 years ago, but I got a number of posts censored on Instagram earlier this year and late last year, often because I posted pro-Kyle, pro-gun, pro-America memes. That led to stupid fights with family members, and BLM supporters threatening to dox me, which led to me leaving Instagram as well. I’ve got a MeWe account, but never use it. I like Gab from what I’ve seen, but don’t have the patience to do social media at this point.

Eventually you will leave Facebook.
Either under your own volition, or theirs.

My last FB jail was 30 days for my Hillary meme, the next offense would have been a total ban.
This coincided with FB censoring the President, so I closed up my business and personal accounts, and walked away.

Sorry, but why does anybody use the internet, including especially 'social media', to put up their idle opinions, political maunderings, half-baked pseudo-insights, etc. etc? The stuff that never used to get beyond ranting at the local tavern or diner. Even the local newspaper wouldn't print ravings.

Is it fun to provoke family, friends (real ones), or to express some sort of solidarity with innumerable strangers?

To me it's just all sowing of discord. Doesn't matter what 'side'. That's all it is.

Isn't this "social media"?? There are several cowboy clubs on Facebook and several gun groups as well as pundits that you can follow or sports stars, actors and singers /musicians. I don't go on FB to "provoke" anyone I merley made a comment much like I'm doing right now in your response to YOUR comment!

Happy Thanksgiving

Thus I used the phrase "internet, including social media". While the boundaries may be vague, I think of 'social media' per se to be Facebook, Instagram, all the unmoderated systems of direct cyber communication.

Website discussion groups and message boards of course share a lot of the same features, but many of them are moderated by site owners. SASS in particular as an example. The owners banned political discussions long ago, because experience showed that, unmoderated, they always degenerated into name-calling. While I think the moderators here in the last couple of years have observed their own rule fairly weakly, they still do step in if things get heated. The other couple of subject-oriented websites I go to with some frequency are also strongly moderated.

We can all go to dinner parties, with family or friends, and we can decide whether or not to toss out political or social opinions that we know are going to cause anger and  upset. Or we don't have to. I've always wondered about the motives of those who do; who then sit back and enjoy the ensuing rancor. I'm blessed with a very large family that has never had an estrangement, one reason being that we don't do that-- ever. No credit to us; our parents inculcated it in us.

Remember the social rule in the old days: no politics or religion at the dinner parties.

Proverbs 6 suggests disfavor toward those who sow discord among brothers.

When they’re getting something for free they don’t look at anything else.

That's the sad truth. FB has also managed to make itself so ubiquitous (both the core FB product, as well as FB owning Instagram and WhatsApp) that most FB users can't imagine leaving. It's become normalized.

A possible strategy for helping clubs like this is to offer to manage a mirror page for them on alternate sites like MeWe or Gab, if they aren't willing to take the initiative.

I've tried MeWe and Reddit and the problem is no one I know goes on there. FB is so big that it offers a wide audience. SASS and SASS Clubs all over the country are on there. Videos of people shooting, interviews, gunsmith talk etc. It's free so why not? Mike Belliveau has his famous "Duelist Den" on there. as well as Hickock 45. Those other places are just not catching on.

The only problem I have with FB is you never know EXACTLY what their "Community standards" are! I can say I'm going to shoot my Colts tomorrow on a SASS or gun group but if I say "I'm going to shoot my AR15 in honor of Kyle Rittehouse on a Candace Owens post I get banned for 7 days! Ridiculous!

Oh well, it's their playground!:o
