Mounting a silver dollar in a belt buckle

"Can you mount this Morgan silver dollar in my belt buckle?"

"Sure, leave it, I'll work on it here directly."

When the fellow came to pick up the finished product, his face fell about three feet.

There was a 3/8" nut and the stub end of the bolt 'twas threaded on, right in the middle of that coin.

"Well, dummy," says he to himself, "I didn't say how to do it," so he threaded it back on his belt and went on his way.

Two days later, at work ...

He was up on a ladder and snagged that buckle.

He felt something pull and let go and something metallic hit the floor.

Panicked, his fingers went to his belt buckle.

He came down off that ladder, unfast his belt and whipped it loose, took a look at the buckle --

His buddy who installed it, had mounted the stub of a bolt and the nut, with a light dab of glue, knowing it would fail under minor stress.

A quick wipe of a solvent rag removed the glue from the surface and he was left with a nice looking belt buckle with the Morgan silver dollar very neatly inletted, and all traces of his buddy's joke were now gone.

His buddy was probably surprised that he didn’t go ballistic when he picked it up. I certainly would have.

I found Morgan conches on eBay.

$5 for front and back.

An untrained eye doesn't know the difference.
