Okiepan
Looking for insight into Gas checks for replacing the speer shot shells , I plan on using #12 shot for the serpants instead of the 7.5 . I believe you use 02 gas checks but any assistance is always welcome.

Slapshot
Cut you some overshot cards out of a old primer cardboard. Place that over your shot and light a candle drip it on top of it. I typically make 38 shot shells and use a 45 cal seating die to slightly roll the edge.
Cusz M. Dutch SASS Life 55326
I have used a 1/2 wad cutter and beer cans to make a gas check for my 45/70. Guessing it would also work with the 44. The little bit of the rolled edge slips right into the case.
The Blarney Kid
I use card wads over powder and overshot and just use a standard crimp to hold the wad in place.
