Problems for newbies

Y'all ever notice this?

Newbie will go to this one gun forum, and ask a very simple question. Is 45 Colt and 45 Long Colt the same thing? Or maybe is 38 Smith & Wesson and 38 Smith & Wesson Special the same thing?

And he will get jumped by dozens of members, screaming at him - USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION. THAT'S WHAT IT IS FOR. THIS SUBJECT HAS BEEN DISCUSSED FORTY-ELEVEN THOUSAND TIMES!! LOOK IT UP!!!!

Then we have this other newbie. He goes to a new to him forum, and uses the search. He finds a thread talking in a general way about what he wants to know, but it does not answer his specific question. So he posts his question on the end of this thread.

And he will get jumped by one or more moderators. THIS IS A TWELVE-YEAR-OLD ZOMBIE THREAD! START YOUR OWN THREAD IF YOU WANT TO FIND AN ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION!!

Sometimes I am so glad that I am not new to the internet.

Not limited to gun fora....  I was severely roasted the first time I asked an honest question on a Miata forum.

Post a picture of Kyle Rittenhouse standing with his AR slung over his shoulder on occupy dimocrats on FB and see what you get. Somehow that was a threat to them but the threats that I got in return did not violate their community standards and I got banned.

I agree that some long time denizens of some groups treat newbies like crap. I've seen just the opposite, too. And I'll have to say that I don't ever recall that type of behaviour here.

The "search" feature here does leave something to be desired, and we all know it. The same goes for most groups I visit. Part of the problem is that veterans of the site, number 1 already know the answers, and 2, know HOW to ask the question is the "search".

When a newby does ask a question, some of the sites I visit have site "gurus", who will ALWAYS step up and answer the question, even if it's the third time that week that it has been asked. While I don't consider one of those guys, if I can help, I do, and am happy to do so, because I remember what it was like.

The biggest problem I have with newbies is when they spell it "noob".<_<

There are threads I know I have read and know the topics.  Regardless of the search term or terms the search function will not find it.  After I scroll through pages of old threads and find it I look and every search term I tried that did not work and all of those terms were in the thread.  I cannot understand why it functions so poorly.

Similar to my experience. Didn't even need to go to the socialist web sight for BLM or occupy "anything"

Just posted his picture that was captioned "self defense is a personal responsibilty". No commentary from me just the posting.

I got over 100 responses in less than an hour and almost all of them told me "I should watch my back", "we will find you", "you redneck racist m@therf#$ker", "lets see what you say when someone blows away your family", "hope someone blows your head off a$$hole". And those were the milder ones!

Reported the comments and about another hour or so later I found that I had violated their community standards and my account was being suspended.:o

I guess like most things liberal the only standards they have are the "double" kind.

Personally don't really mind being banned from such a pathetic community of losers.

Such is the "tolerant", "diverse", "inclusive" and "peaceful" left!

Exactly my experience.

I made the"mistake" of asking about a powder that was no longer in production on a shooting forum and was vilified for not using my loading manual, the information wasn't in any of the dozen manuals I had. That went over like a lead baloon and it wasn't me that got roasted.

Doing searches back a lot of year on the Wire I have seen people jumped on for posting up reloading recipes and asking for reloading recipes being cited that "Reloading data is not allowed on the Wire" etc etc etc

But as you get later in time, these comments drop off and there's a lot of posted powder weights.......was there a change in the rules?

Yeah, I guess I am kind of a slow learner. Beginning to catch on though.

Was never really observant to the news or what was going on around the world.

Now you cannot get away from it and quite frankly the current situation scares the bejebbers out of me.

What really is bothersome is the way some (including a few on these forums) make excuses for the destruction of our way of life and pardon extra ordinarily bad/perverted  behaviors as just another form of self expression. Sad really.

No, it was probably “Why do guys with little appendages think Miata’s are ‘chick cars’ and why do they get so offended when a Miata blows their doors off?”

But I could be wrong.

Hardpan, I got jumped all over on a Kawasaki Versys forum because I commented that using the wrong oil during warranty may void your warranty. Some of their frequent posters who obviously control world affairs were sore at me as I apparently questioned the promotion of their favorite oil.

There is only one other gun forum I go on besides the Wire. Many others contain a**holes. Too many more than meets my daily requirement.

They are chick cars because the only Miata drivers that appear to be males are metrosexuals.  Otherwise if they like sporty 2 seaters they would be driving Z3's, Z4 or Corvetes.

I think I recall what caused that.

Guy came on here asking about load information for 45 Colt. Another guy gave him a load using Winchester 296.

I look at that post, thought a while, then went and looked through my manuals.

Then I got on that thread. Asked him where he got that data from. Said I had six different reloading manuals, and NONE of them had a 296  load for 45 Colt.

The next day he came back on that thread and apologized. Brain fart. He meant 231.

Big damn difference between Winchester 231 and 296.

Shortly after that the rule came down that you could no longer give loading data on the wire.
