what's with all those ships sitting around ...

Recommended Posts

California, in it's infinite wisdom, has apparently decided that only union truck drivers and trucks less than 5 years old are allowed to transport everything being unloaded at the ports.

There apparently is a shortage of the conex containers that are used to ship stuff by ship as well.

.... with all your Christmas shopping still on board ?

Under normal circumstances, that stuff starts showing up in the Left Coast ports about March or April and percolates down through the logistics system down to the store level starting about right now.

This year ain't normal, with the manufacturing delays world wide on top of the logistics mess on both land and sea, so there's no telling where what was intended to be in the US for Christmas time is located- if it exists at the moment at all.

With the demurrage charges piling up, I imagine shippers and owners will be looking for and finding alternative ways to get products to market for next year.

That is a BIG part of it.

Just wait until the all trucks have to be electric kicks in.

And lets not forget Ca. AB5 which basically excluded all independent truck drivers from operating in California.  Now they all have to be classified as employees of a company.   The independent truckers didn't sign on as employees.  They just quit handling freight out of California.

Smart move on the independent truckers part.

I did not know you could join the union before you were 5. How do they see over the steering wheel?
