Knee-Jerk...?

Well, in the wake of the movie set tragedy it was inevitable:

Quote

A California state senator is proposing a ban on live weapons on movie sets in the wake of the accidental shooting death of a cinematographer by actor Alec Baldwin last week.

Democratic lawmaker Dave Cortese, chair of the state legislature’s Labor Committee, said the proposed law will prohibit all live guns and ammo from movies and theatrical productions.

“There is an urgent need to address alarming work abuses and safety violations occurring on the set of theatrical productions, including unnecessary high-risk conditions such as the use of live firearms,” Cortese said in a release.

There've probably been thousands of films made in California in the last fifty years.  During that time there was one fatal firearms accident on a movie set in California - when Jon-Erik Hexum thought it would be fun to play Russian roulette with a blank-loaded revolver.  Evidently normal safety rules work well when practiced.

Ah, well - can't blame an honest legislator for taking advantage of a situation, I reckon.  And of course his kindred colleagues will heartily endorse his bill - 'tis the thing to do, don'tcha know.

It’s another epidemic of gun violence.  Watch even more movies start being filmed in other states and Canada.  Just what his constituents need, more business leaving their state. Other bureaucratic crap was probably why this movie as being made in New Mexico.

Remember how the entertainment industry screamed about NY's draconian gun laws a couple of years ago?  And used economic blackmail to bully NY into giving it special exemptions?

Prop houses in CA have special exemptions from our Byzantine labrynth of draconian anti-civil rights laws.

As they did with the Gabby Petito tragedy, it appears the liberal state run media has a new rallying cry and is gearing up to run this tragedy as far as they can. And, as usual, the anti-gunners aren't waiting for any such aggravating things as facts in their rush to punish as many legitimate gun owners as possible, along with the jobs of all those in the movie industry about to lose their jobs.

Investigation? They don't need any stinkin' investigation. Wait to find out exactly what happened to determine who/what was at fault? No need, we know what needs to be done.

Final thought. Regardless of who screwed up to allow a loaded firearm to be placed within Baldwins reach, Baldwin himself needs to own a large portion of responsibility for this. He alone, failed to check the firearm himself, he alone failed at muzzle control, he alone failed at keeping finger off the trigger, and he alone pulled the trigger. A very tragic incident, and my heart goes out to those injured and to the families of the young lady killed. But in the end it was a very preventable accident.

THIS would be my rider on that bill:

“All movie and film prop guns must now have the word “DEAD” etched into their frames just before the manufacturer’s name thus rendering them “dead” and not “live” guns.”

It’s just as stupid as the bill itself.

You know the Left's mantra, Hardpan, "Never let a tragedy go to waste".

So it happened in another state and it took multiple people violating multiple safety regs for it to happen!  Who cares?  People are upset right now, so let's play off of that emotion to exert more control on daily life of a segment of the population through useless and asinine laws and regulations.
