What model C&B is this?

Not sure what this is.  The serial number is 18.  Several pieces have 18 stamped into it.  Dragoon? Walker?  OBTW, asking for a friend.

BAsed on the cylinder notches and trigger guard it is a Second Model Dragoon

Quick glance shows that it could be a real collectors item.

Might want to seek out an expert opinion.

2nd Model Dragoon.  The cylinder engraving is very deep and the serial number of 18 is entirely wrong for a genuine 2nd Model Dragoon.  Look for Italian proof marks or date stamps.  A real 2nd Model would have roll engraving on the cylinder but it is very shallow.  The serial number would be between 8,000 and 10,000.

This one pictured is a (copy?)  2nd model Colt Dragoon.

The Second model, has a square back trigger guard, and rectangle cylinder stops, with a lead-in....which this one has.

The First model has oval trigger stops, with no lead-in, but also has a square-back trigger guard.

The Third model has rectangular cylinder stops, with a lead-in, and also is the only dragoon model with a round trigger guard.

All "five" dragoons (if you count the Walker, and the Whitneyville) were in ".44" caliber, although you use a .45 caliber ball, or conical bullet in them. I prefer a conical paper cartridge.

Easy Peasey...
