Snakebite
I've been trying to organize my Powder stash. I have a lot of BP subs, all in 1 lbs jars. It got me to wondering why the subs are only available in 1 lb jars. Any ideas on that? sb
Crazy Gun Barney, SASS #2428
Are subs classified like BP as explosives not propellants? If so, 1 pound jars may be some sort of regulatory imposed maximum.
Tyrel Cody
Not sure I've ever seen real BP in anything other than 1lb jugs, so maybe its as CGB ^ suggested

Smokin Gator SASS #29736
I have seen real black powder advertised in 25 pound bags. Usually the lower grade bp.

Smokin Gator SASS #29736
I don't think its sold much in the bags now, but it was more common years ago. Crater Fireworks lists Schuetzen ff and fffg 5.5, 25 bags and 50 pound box. bags. They also offer 1 pound cans.

I have the other two. I used to work at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. I use to often eat my lunch sitting on one of the spare 16" barrels for the New Jersey. They were located in building 625. Just outside this building, to the south/east, were two large cement pedestals. They were the place where "Fat Man" was placed for a short time on it's way to Japan. The Iowa is just around the Corner, south east of Mare Island, in Suisun Bay.

Abilene Slim SASS 81783
I'm guessing the bulk of subs buyers are non-CAS shooters and only need a pound every now and then. Not enough customers for larger containers.
Rooster Ron Wayne
I was setting at my loading bench a week or two ago . And I kept trying to move my feet around and kept kicking a box under the bench . I said to myself what the heck is that box in my way . I pulled it off under the bench and opened up a full case of Goex FFF in one pound cans . I said wen did I put that under there I opened up the powder safe to put it away, and seen the whole powder safe was full of powder. I must not had another place for it. I don't remember even buying it lol. I remember how hard it was to get .22 ammo around ten years ago . I said I would never be cought short again on any ammo or loading supplies . So Saith The Rooster.

Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Hollywood seemed to be able to get lots of 25 pound wooden kegs of powder in the 50s and 60s. Always marked XXX, too.
