When Mythbusters did stuff like that they used plexiglass shields and remote triggers. I wonder if those dudes even stopped to think what a catastrophic failure at that rate of fire could do. They had six or eight drums and several 40 round sticks and they were shooting it just as fast as it could be shot, to see if they could get the barrel hot enough to set the forearm on fire.
