Are the fires out?

Recommended Posts

Nope. A lot of haze in the air, and I can't see Helena only ten miles distant. We're going to start getting a little snowfall next week, so fire/smoke season will be ending in a month.

I don't remember this as a kid growing up out here 50-60 years ago, but now "fire season" lasts from before the snow is completely melted in the spring until after it starts sticking to the ground again in the fall. The first fires will be in April, and the smoke continues to November. :(

Fifty or sixty years ago, there were less than half as many people living in the area where the fires are prevalent today. The likelihood of someone starting a major fire, accidentally or otherwise, was greatly diminished.

Add to that the failure of those who have moved into these areas to provide for supporting infrastructure, including water management, reservoirs, the cleaning, clearing, and maintenance of power line right of ways, and competent forest management, including underbrush and deadfall removal, and planned timber harvesting, you have a “perfect  storm” of conditions for the probability of disasters like we are experiencing now!

You can thank the misguided efforts of undereducated tree hugging radicals for most of these miseries!!

Too many trees in some areas directly effects the availability of ground water and exacerbates drought situations.  The lack of sufficient water and nutrients causes trees to die, creating deadfall and dry underbrush. The forest is weakened by overgrowth and the deadfall and underbrush is now, in effect, a tinderbox waiting for a spark, ANY SPARK, to become the next flaming disaster!

You put a major power line into an area to meet the demand of those moving into what was “wilderness”.  Then those same people demand that you NOT keep clear or maintain the right of way required to get those power lines into the area?!?!?  SORRY FOLKS!!!  You brought this on yourselves!! The only “Climate Change” involved here is that YOU invaded the area and didn’t do the things it takes make it safe and sustainable!!

But as we know, cars are the cause of all the carbon.

Yeah! Cars and power lines and hydroelectric dams and reservoirs and timber management and all sorts of other things and activities!!

AND DON’T FORGET THE GUNS!!  Those idiot gun owners and sport shooters and hunters that actually DO things to preserve the forests and natural resources we all depend on!!!

I'd love to see the actual carbon footprint of an electric car. All the plastic is still petroleum, they can't get rid of the batteries, the mining for lithium is horrendous, but they are doing their part. Their part for what!!? I didn't bother to check the statistic, but heard recently that all the airlines in the world use 21 million gallons of fuel a year and lithium mining uses 31 million. So as you can see, electric save bunches of fossil fuel!

Not all lithium goes to car batteries.

And how about doing the same breakdown for all materials and fuel used to produce internal combustion engine cars of similar size .

Never mind the lithium!! The cobalt is probably much worse and carbon footprint be damned!!

Stuff like cobalt and lithium leaves a mark that makes a carbon footprint look like mouse tracks!!

Funny how something completely disappears from the news once the reporters get bored with it.

Or when they have something new to direct our attention away from or to for their gain or for the gain of those that they support!!
