Charlie Harley, #14153
My dad gave me his Miroku replica of an 1885 Highwall in 45-70. It has a Marbles tang sight but is otherwise factory original. Would it still be legal for SASS long range side matches if I mounted a Lyman 17a front sight and a slip-on sorbathane pad with a leather cover? Both would significantly enhance the rifle’s performance. I appreciate any insight the Wire can offer.
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Yes on both those additions. The Lyman 17a is a big improvement and very period for a target rifle. The slip on leather butt cover with sorbothane in it is fine as well. From my driver's seat. Have shot long range events with that very same front sight. And even a fully-visible modern recoil pad is a legal addition. good luck, GJ
