SOLD Remington No. 1 Sporting Rifle in .45-70

SOLD This is an interesting gunsmith modified Remington Number 1 Sporting Rifle. The rifle was originally chambered in .22 Long, which made it somewhat rare.  Later in its life, probably still in the 19th century, it was bored out to .45-70.  The original RF block was replaced with a military style CF block.  The bore is VG, but could use a good scrubbing out.  There is no safety concern with this conversion because the Number 1 rifles used the same barrels and receivers in all of its chamberings.  It is an all matching rifle, other than the block.  Hammer is un-numbered but the proper sporting profile. The rifle is fitted with a rare factory single set trigger that functions as it should.  Overall finish of the rifle is Good+.  The 28" barrel and receiver have 75%+ patina  finish, with edge wear and a few minor dings.  Forend is VG.  Buttstock could use some cleaning (oil penetration) and has some minor cracks at buttplate and upper buttplate screw.  No major flaws that would preclude firing today. The rear sight is a modern adjustable buckhorn style.  I think a reproduction Rough and Ready sight would be great (Less than $100 from Montana Vintage Arms). Overall a nice example of a classic rifle in very desirable chambering.  Price reflects modifications to an original rifle.  ANTIQUE ships direct to your door.  Payment by USPS Money Order or cashiers check preferred. Discrete PayPal Friends and Family (add 1.5% so I can transfer to my bank straight away). Asking $1250 SHIPPED.  More pics to your email address.
