Target shape patterns

Its a long shot, but thought I'd ask.

 

Does anyone have template files or a link to template files for cutting out target patterns in steel like buffalo, suite of cards etc?

 

A club member has just bought a top shelf plasma cutter and I wanted to cut out some templates in plywood.

When cutting fancy shapes you'll waste 25-30% of your steel. Small areas; legs, arms, tails, etc are weak points.

I cut squares, rectangles, diamonds are just squares turned 45 degrees. Cute little props made of plywood are much cheaper if you want fluff. Depends how much money you've got and if you want to piss off shooters when they shoot thru a hole or bow legged cowboy legs. They don't complain as much when they miss a large square.

I did it the government way - designed and scaled them with a computer program, drew them out with a piece of chalk, and cut them with an oxy-acetylene torch.

Some shooters (me) appreciate different shaped targets.  Frankly, I’ve never heard any shooter complain about target shapes other than here on the wire.
 

I would think whoever he bought the cutter from might offer files.

A simple google search will bring up lots of drawings you can resize to make patterns.

I  have Cowboys, Indians, Mexicans, Card suites, Train engines and cars, Buffalos, Cows and various wild animal targets. I think they are great but it seems anymore most just want BIG squares.

I've cut all kinds of shapes over the years. Got tired of dragging sharp, jagged pieces of scrap steel plate to the salvage yard every 6 months. Seemed like a huge waste. Then welding feet, heads, tails, feathers, etc back on and grinding on lead covered steel got old. Not to mention those little parts bend easily and must be pressed flat once or twice annually. Never did like shooting those buzzard or snake shapes. The hanging chains were challenging.

The buffalo ones are what I'd like to cut out first and then sometime down the line to add some interest the card suite.

 

We aren't allowed to have any target(s) that resemble a human, even our IPSC cardboard targets don't have the square 'head' portion.

I did a couple buffalo skull targets too, but much lighter steel - 3/8", I think. With just one person shooting on this range (me), they've held up just fine.

It may be best to avoid them "just in case" but AFAIK noone has ever run into problems using the "cartoon" style figures like the SASS marshal target... We certainly haven't.
