Mountain Man Gramps
I just picked up a pair of 1858 Remingtons by Uberti. Great guns but the front sight is a bit hard to see with my eyes. It's not a blade sight like the Colts but like a ground down vertical rod that flares out toward the base. It like to replace them with a brass sight but can't find one. I've also thought about painting them brass. What have you 1858 owners done to make the front sights more visible?
H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619
I've got a real Remington, factory conversion, that the front sight is a half dime.

Tequila Shooter
If you’re going to use dimes, nickels, etc. I strongly suggest that you silver solder them on, epoxy doesn’t hold up well between barrel heat and holster hits.
H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619
Here's mine... Although it's been smoothed on the sides, I am pretty sure it's a dime, as you can still see the ridges on its edge. A much fun pistol to own and shoot. .38 Long Colt. Dutch Wheeler
I have masked around the sight base and used a Dremel with a felt polisher and jewelers rouge to polish the back side of the sight to a bright finish.
Mountain Man Gramps
Thanks everyone for your input. Here is a photo of the sight. I think some gold paint will do the trick.
PaleWolf Brunelle, #2495L
That should work just fine. Remember: Quote If blacking, paint, or plating is applied to a revolver front sight, it must cover the entire rear surface of the sight to give the appearance of a solid material.
