Father Kit Cool Gun Garth
If you've listened to both of these songs, there is something vaguely familiar in them. "Faithfully" was released in 1983. "Heaven" was released in 1984. Back then after listening to them extensively on the radio, I was intrigued by the one similarity in the two songs. Doing my research, with only the two album covers I had, I discovered what it was, and was relieved to know my ears were not deceiving me. Did anyone else have this same perception back then? What is the link in these two songs. Below are the videos; however, you need not listen to the entirety of the songs to hear it. Challenge is on! Rye Miles #13621
Vaguely similar but the melodies are different and so are the chord changes. Lots of songs out there that are very similar. Just MHO I'd like to know what you're hearing that I'm not.

Fence Cutter
All songs are similar since we only have 12 notes in western music (not counting microtonal music of course)
Doc Shapiro
There's no way to count the songs that use just I-IV-V, or various combinations of the I-vi-IV-V. Both are ubiquitous in popular music over the last many years. If you get right down to it, there's likely very little original left other than lyrics, and I'm sure there are still rhythmic and melodic variations that have yet to be done. There are only so many ways to put the 12 note western scale together. If you start getting into microtones, the variation increases dramatically. Doc Shapiro
Further add that Journey drummer Steve Smith played on both tracks. Bryan Adams had toured extensively with Journey before and while he wrote it, so was likely highly influenced by the Journey song. How's that? Father Kit Cool Gun Garth
CLUE: The familiarity lies in the first 36 seconds of "HEAVEN" and at the 1:25 Mark of "FAITHFULLY". BUT the answer is in why they are familiar.
Widder, SASS #59054
Well, some of you may be restricted with your 12 note 'western scale'. But ever so often, ole Wizard Hands Widder manages to hit a 13th and 14th note. ..........Widder

Pat Riot
Both songs reek of 80’s digital delay echo.

Thanks to everyone for playing. I will admit that I am not a fan of either band. My personal preferences tend toward bluegrass, punk, metal, alternative, blues, and various forms of jazz, including bebop. 80's pop music is not something I dig.
