Front Sights

Have you ever done something stupid, knowing full well you were doing something stupid before and during the act of doing it and find afterwards you were right to believe it was stupid? Well let me go ahead and say it for you " IDIOT " ! Both of my six guns were shooting extremely low, so, not having access to a place to file and shoot to adjust the front sights, I purchase an inexpensive bore sight on line, checked them in my house and cut away, I know, I know, " IDIOT " ! Well needles to say I'm now shooting to high. With our large targets, I have adjusted OK enough  to hit them, but when a stage calls for a precision shot at small targets, I'm in trouble. I'm sucking up my pride and am asking if any of you cowboys/ cowgirls know any secret fixes. Thanks in advance.

Maybe a set of those brass site covers? Just a thought.

Those covers cost almost as much as news sights would

I got this first generation Colt SAA made in 1906 and the front sight had been cut down a lot. Bill Fuchs at Spring Creek Armory built it back up by TIG welding.  It was part of a complete refinish job.  But it's a way it can be done.  Before and after.

Not necessarily.

I have brass covers on my pistol sites - cost me about 50 cents each.

All that is required is a local quality hobby shop or some internet searching.

Square or rectangular brass stock - used commonly in model railroading.

With an interior width just slightly over the width of the sight.

Some epoxy.

A Dremel with cut off wheel.

Some time.

Charter Member Idiot’s club here.

Brass front sight cover on an old model Vaquero, gap filled with JB Weld after the sight adhesive sets.

It works.

I always thought a silver dime would make a nice looking sight.

Yep.  I have the SureSights on several FAs and they have serrated semi-ramp fronts and now they look much like J-Bars. Or, just have a competent gunsmith install you some new brass bar-stock fronts (Boomstick or Snake Oil to name a couple)

Do most people just go straight to filing sites to adjust poa/poi? I was always told to adjust your load and find one that works for the gun before picking up any tools.

I think this would be the way to go. I made my own slip on brass covers using a split brass 12 ga hull.

Short barrel cap and ball pistols with nickels for sights?  What more can anyone ask for?  Nice!
