Eldorado Slim
Hi all, I have a cz sharptail that I am getting reblued and was wondering if anyone knows if the barrels on the cz st are silver soldered as opposed to soft soldered? Thanks much, Eldorado Slim
Lazy Eeyour
I'd email CZ. I believe most side x side shotguns are silver soldered. None the less hot bluing can melt the joint. For just a shooter shotgun I'd use something like https://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/metal-prep-coloring/metal-bluing/liquid-cold-bluing-chemicals/oxpho-blue--prod1072.aspx
Eldorado Slim
Thanks for the response. I took it to the gunsmith and it is indeed silver soldered and (new to me) it is black chrome and can't be reblued very easily. Oh well, I can live with it the way it is :-) Eldorado
Snakebite
Get you a can of Cold Galvanize and spray it.
Buckshot Sheridan
CZ shotguns are done in Black DLC. It’s an incredibly hard and durable finish.
Lazy Eeyour
Standard chrome is tri-plated, steel/nickel/copper/chrome. Be careful with ammonia products as the ammonia can seep through the chrome causing it to flake off.
Dutch Nichols, SASS #6461
According to CZ it is NOT DLC it is black chrome. Also there is only a base coat of nickel or copper (not both) under decorative chrome. Firearms and aero space use an industrial hard chrome with NO base coat. Chrome is porous and can actually rust under the chrome!! And some ammonia cleaners can cause flaking.
Buckshot Sheridan
Dutch good to know they made a change. My Ringneck from several years back was DLC on the barrels, and they made a point of making it known. That was the flavor of the day as it were. I used it on several guns I built for customers, but sure paid through the nose for it at the time.
Dutch Nichols, SASS #6461
Buckshot they made several changes to their guns in recent years for sure!! Best of all they alleviated that "doll nose"* between the bbls that made loading extra fun. * I think that's what they call it?
