What are the odds? Poker

Six people are playing 'Draw Poker'.

There are NO wild cards.   Standard 52 card deck.

One of the 6 players is dealt 3-10's.   He takes 2 cards and draws the 4th 10.   (4 - 10's)

Another player is dealt 2-Kings.   He takes 3 cards and gets 2 more Kings.   (4 - Kings)

What are the odds of 2 players getting 4 of a kind in the same deal?

You need to start thinking " Cold Deck.". Get out of this game immediately!  It could be coincidence, but just between you and me I've got my doubts about it

Keep in mind these formulas are for an available 52 cards. As players are dealt cards the available cards go down making the chances go down.

I've been on the other side of it having smaller quads than the other guy. That sucks. Glad you won the hand, now let me sell you something!

The deal rotates and I actually don't remember who the dealer was.

Plus, we follow suggested guidelines in the player to the right of the dealer 'cuts'

before each deal.

The deck was also NOT a cold deck but had been in use MANY games prior.

There were also 2 players spaced on each side of the players who got 4 of a kind.

Hey TN,

I looked at that link you posted and I have NO idea what it says.

The odds of me understanding that link are probably greater than getting 4-K's again.

;)

That reminds me of a story my uncle told me one time about a guy with four 4s and a forty-four beating the heck out of a guy with a full house and a straight razor.

Was the 3rd time the guy had four 4s.

I'd say Ricky Jay if he was still alive.

He was a master with cards.

When I was a young teen...about 13 or so...the kid across the street would run poker games in his basement.  And, yes, his Dad knew about it! I thin we were playing seven-card stud.  I actually drew a royal flush...and I couldn't get  the other players (four or five, IIRC) to bet just a total of $5.00 in the pot! :(

Widder, I was in the service with a guy who grew up in Las Vegas around some apparently nefarious people. You could bring him your own deck of cards, let him shuffle, he'd let you cut however you wanted, then he would deal 4 jacks, 4 queens, 4 kings, and 4 aces, in whatever order you wanted. Needless to say, no one played cards with him, we just watched him show off.

What are the odds?  You couldn’t pay me enough to work out the actual odds, but I’ll have a five dollar stab at it.

consider six at the table and two players get dealt a pat hand of four of a kind. For one to get dealt four of a kind, the odds are 4164:1.  The odds of ending up with four of a kind are better than that because it’s draw poker and not stud.  The odds of two players having four of a kind are roughly sixteen million to one but again because it’s draw poker the odds are better than that. Now, what are the odds that you win? Almost fifty:fifty!  Why almost? Because there is still a chance that one of the other players will have a straight flush.

Kinda reminds me of some cartoon of a guy with a shotgun...now where did I see that?

I'll bet you a buck my four of a kind beats your straight royal flush...

Oh, you disagree? I happen to have a deck of cards right here.

I choose four jacks as my four of a kind and pull them out of the deck.

I then hand you the deck and ask to see your straight royal flush.

After a few seconds, I ask for the buck.

Howdy,

There is a game with cards on LetsMakeadeal.

It looks so easy getting three of a kind queens or fours.

They play it quite often and Ive only ever seen one player win.

If I was on the show with that game I would take the consolation prize.

Usually its a nice little vacation somewhere fine.

Best

CR
