Lying, greedy, duplicitous, cowardly.....politicians

Recommended Posts

So, after suddenly finding common ground on both sides of the legislative aisle, we now learn WHY Rs and Ds could agree on the so-called "Infrastructure Bill".....because it comes with new hidden taxes.

https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/bipartisan-infrastructure-bill-biden-national-mileage-fee

So the Congress is going to study how best to pass the cost of their pet construction projects on to drivers in the form of some kind of mileage fees, and after waiting three years for everyone to cool off and forget about the promises not to raise any taxes on anyone making $400K or less per year, they will start charging everyone an undefined fee per mile for each vehicle you own or use.

I'm going to learn to ride a horse.

Doesn't say how it would be enforced.

Some of you may recall that one of the items buried in the original "We have to pass it to see what's in it" ObamaCare plan was a requirement that every citizen would have to file a Form 1099 for each and every establishment where they spent $600 or more in the course of a year. Fortunately, when that was exposed, it was killed. Hopefully, this exposure will have the same effect.

The sad part of all this is people would be more agreeable to "user fees" if government would use the money only for the stated purpose. The problem is that from the local up to the national level is the money is invariably repurposed for pet projects having nothing to do with the original need. In my city, voters approved a sales tax expressly to improve the bus system. A couple of years later, the city diverted the money for "emergency" general revenue needs and the bus system is still underfunded.  Not long after that, Missouri voters rejected a proposed 1-cent sales tax increase for "transportation improvements". It failed because the proponents out and out refused to explain how the money would be spent. It's not often, but every now and then voters get a chance to poke 'em in eye.

Just look to California.  Not only have our esteemed legislators been looking at a "mileage fee" for a few  years now, but our fuel taxes designated for road construction have been re-directed to the state's so-called High Speed Rail project.  To compensate, new fuel taxes were established - and almost immediately, portions were re-directed to High Speed Rail.

By the way - I expect that in the not so far off future the current [Federal] administration will step up to fund this "important project."  After all, it's only fair that Iowa farmers should pay their fair share....  :wacko:

When I ring the bell of freedom July 4, 2022 I am getting out of this state. Loophole’s headline perfectly describes the politicos in this state.
I remember last year there was talk of taxing by the mile here and I sent very colorful letters of encouragement to my legislators. I encouraged them to pull their heads out of their anal cavities and start properly taxing electric car drivers by the mile and leave those of us alone that have been funding everything but the things our gasoline taxes are supposed to be funding. I also wrote them a little educational piece on their lying deceptions at the gas pumps that state what taxes are paid on each gallon and asked them to explain how it is that the very same gas that we pump in CA is also pipelined to AZ. I asked them to explain if gas is taxed at 18 cents in the gallon why is gas in CA $1.00 to $1.50 higher than gas in AZ?

I got no response but it made me feel better…for a few minutes.

So...this tells me that people like us, who drive 55 miles to work each day will be paying more than the average Joe?

And those of us who have worked hard our adult lives, who are looking forward to retirement and travel, will be carrying the brunt of the taxes??

How will the powers that be determine the miles??

Yes. And I who work from my house and live in an urban setting will pay far less than Joe.

People who drive a lot will pay the taxes.

PLUS ONE for Blackwater.  It maters not which side of the you speak of.  Politicians mantra is "how to better line my pockets."

Here, in my neck of the woods, we pay $.41 per gallon dedicated to "road repair."  And if you believe that, I got a deal for ya onna swell bridge. (BARF)

I only have ONE vehicle with the GPS and odometer monitors on it.  Those features have been shut down on the only other vehicle originally so equipped.

 I’m seriously considering making my 1928 Ford rat rod, (Chevy 4 cylinder powered) my daily driver, at least until I get my Model T streetrod finished.

Like all of the 2A garbage we’re being threatened with.  REFUSE TO COMPLY

Civil disobedience is a powerful response.  There would likely be short term consequences to those who dare to disobey, but they will be revered as patriots and heroes.  At least in my book.

Help me out here ...... you already pay a tax on the fuel you use to drive the miles, which you wouldn't be able to drive without the fuel that you just paid the tax on .......... and the more miles you drive the more tax you pay on the fuel that you have to use to drive those miles ....... hmmmmmmmmmm   :huh:

The people who drive a lot ALREADY pay the most in taxes. State and federal taxes on fuel tires and every other thing that goes into upkeep on a vehicle.

And that is not the end....

  • State sales tax on initial purchase price;
  • State sales tax on all parts, fluids and accessories used in maintenance and repairs;
  • State excise tax on value of vehicle every year;
  • Gas taxes (discussed above);
  • And now a per mile tax?
  • And add in the exorbitant cost of car liability insurance (required by state law)

And the attitude of our elected representatives?  SO happy that they have discovered yet another taxable pot!

Taxation without meaningful representation!!!

I'm using a sailboat to get around locally; no motor, so no fuel, fuel tax or mileage charges; but it takes longer to get from A to B.

Jack Reacher has the right idea... but he is a fictional character.

The intent of Marxism is State ownership of all things.
No private ownership of property or vehicles.
You will live in State housing and take State public transit to locations the State determines you should travel.

This latest wave of Delta variant is arriving just in time to secure another 16 month lockdown.
This will continue beyond November of 2022, so more vote-by-mail (fraud) will be demanded, because it is not "safe" to vote in person.
No need to have a Voter ID card.. that is racist... but a Covid vaccination card is mandatory if you want to work or travel.

I'm curious... to where?

We have been looking and looking, and it appears that ship sailed 20 years ago.
OR, WA and CA are out... socialist states.
ID is overrun with CA people... 15,000 yearly to Boise alone from CA (drivers license changes).
WY is too damn cold, as is SD.

Prescott, AZ was our first choice.. but property is scarce and pricey.

Seriously looking at West Virginia and Texas. Taking a trip to West Virginia in October. Texas a month or two later.

My bro-in-law is a long time Texan... leaving for Greely, S. Carolina.
He says TX has the same problems as CA:  power and water.

I lived in Boise ID from 1950 to 1967... also a kid's paradise...
Would not live there today for any amount of $$.
Call some place Paradise... kiss it good bye... true words.

There's a push to increase electric vehicles. They've already raised gas taxes in many states due to the more fuel efficient vehicles. This is another way to make sure the cash flow keeps coming as they lose more and more on gasoline taxes.

Here in CA, Lake Oroville has now dried up to the extent the water level is too low to spin the hydro electric generators.
Perhaps the electric car people can plug into a currant bush for a recharge.

Cheap gas here is now $4.25 per gallon.
The recall of Newsom is September 14... this will be a major indicator.

He says the recall is 'unfair', to just vote him out...

That might be TOO LATE.

I pray the recall is successful.. but hold little hope of him being recalled.
If he his recalled, this will squash any chance he has of running for President in 2024.
