evil dogooder
Picked this up as a project a few weeks ago. Some of the internals were missing as well as the mag spring and follower. Somebody had re-barreled with a heavy round barrel and reblue it. Born in 1882 as a 44-40. Wood was nice but a little different. It has a squared off shotgun butt on it. I hadn't seen one like it before. Normally I just see the crescent. The wrist is wider as well. If it was replaced, it was done a long time ago. The stock has shrunk evenly around the plate. It's been drilled and tapped for a long range sight. The problem is now that it's functioning, do I keep it or sell it lol. More than likely sell it, but it's nice to have a piece of history... I wish I knew what it's story was

Cypress Sam, SASS #10915
Winchester did make some on special order with heavy barrels (also some with single set triggers). I don’t know about the stock, but I’ve read that the factory would make most any modification a customer wanted for a price of course.
