It's not so much whether the buyer cares about owning the original box. It's a perceived value thing. People's perception is that if the owner still has the original box, they've probably taken better care of the firearm. It is a selling point. And many folks want the firearm to be in as original condition as possible, including the box, hang tag, booklets, etc. Colt boxes from the 1800s can go for thousands of $$$.
