The Florida Seminoles routinely get that piece of nonsense - YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THAT NAME!! IT'S OFFENSIVE!!!!!

So far the response from the Seminole tribes of Florida has been, BUGGER OFF PALEFACE! WE LIKE IT!!!

I'll still wear my Indians and Chief Wahoo shirts and hats proudly. Just like I still call the stadium where they play, "The Jake". (Now Progressive Field but used to be called Jacobs Field after a former owner, Dick Jacobs.)

Should have renamed the Redskins the Red Necks....and let them chew on that as their blood boils.

I don't care about baseball. I don't care about Cleveland. And I don't care about offensive racist team names.

But if they had renamed some team up in Yankee land the rednecks, I would be - not offended, but definitely damn annoyed. Since I are one.

Trust me us yankees would have been annoyed too!!

Interestingly, the term redneck can be traced back to the Presbyterian Lowland Scots in the 1600s. The so-called "Covenanters" signed a document swearing not to accept the Church of England as their official church, some in their own blood. They would wear red strips of cloth around their necks to distinguish themselves, and many eventually fled to Ulster, and from there to America, becoming known as the Scots-Irish here. There is reference to at least one Presbyterian minister wearing a red clerical collar into the 1940s.

Moving forward to the 1920s, and we see miners seeking to unionize in West Virginia again utilizing red cloths around their necks, bandanas this time, being symbolic of their movement against the mine owners and even the government. While there were large numbers of Scots-Irish miners, the redneck symbolically worked to unite them with African-American and immigrant miners, whom the mine bosses attempted to divide and set upon one another.

Add to that the oft-cited reference to rednecks being field hands and farm workers whose necks would be red from putting in a hard day's work under the sun.

All of which brings me to this: As the grandson of two coal miners, who traces much of my ancestry back to Ulster, and living in Ohio, where farms are still a significant part our heritage and culture, I would be fine with a team called the Rednecks.

I was so very happy when I did my DNA test and found out my family lied to me all my life about our “Cherokee heritage”. I never believed it in the first place.

If the tribes want names changed they find offensive, so be it. No one should utter a thing about them. They can celebrate their victories amongst themselves with no outside interaction.
Good thing they have their casinos. They can all make money off themselves at their casinos. I know they’ll never see a dime of my money. A once noble people whoring themselves to corporations for the almighty dollar…the white man’s dollar. Irony…duplicity…dumbassery!

And they let little white Commies fight for them. Noble…yeah, right!
