That much I've figured out. But how much shorter they can be without ruining their function, I was unable to figure out with just one set to work on. Another way to lighten a spring is to remove material from the sides of the spring, making the spring wire thinner. Perhaps, but I don't think I have the skills to do that without worrying that I've done something that will eventually lead to failure of the spring steel wire.
